The Labour Court upheld the Equality Officer’s refusal to extend the time limit for Maciukas’s race-discrimination complaint against G4S Secure Solutions (Ireland) Limited. The Court’s determination was dated 26 June 2014. The complaint was brought about ten months after the alleged discrimination, outside the usual six-month limit. Maciukas said family responsibilities and long daily travel explained the delay. G4S argued that those circumstances had not prevented him from filing in time. The Court found that he had explained the delay but had ample opportunity to bring the complaint within six months and had not shown reasonable cause for an extension. Before the contract transferred to G4S, Maciukas had worked for Bridgestock Security, which offered him an alternative assignment. The merits of the discrimination allegation were not decided.
