The Labour Court rejected a fixed-term worker’s appeal over RTÉ’s vacancy notices, finding that the broadcaster had met its duty to inform fixed-term employees about permanent openings. Its determination was dated 25 July 2014.
The violinist said she had not been told about vacancies and lost the chance to apply for permanent work. RTÉ said vacancies were posted on its intranet and notice boards, including at the Concert Hall where the orchestra rehearsed. The Court found the notices were equally accessible to fixed-term and other employees, and affirmed the Rights Commissioner’s finding that the section 10 complaint was not well founded. The worker’s separate appeal concerning section 8 was withdrawn.
