The Workplace Relations Commission did not recommend in favour of a former health service doctor who challenged her progression from Senior House Officer to Registrar. The recommendation was dated 11 September 2023. She argued that she performed Registrar-equivalent work and should have received the higher pay rate. The health service said two years’ experience did not guarantee appointment and candidates also had to pass MRCPsych Papers A and B. The WRC said it had no jurisdiction to consider the general fairness of those additional requirements because they affected the pay rates of a group of workers. It also found that the doctor had not pursued internal grievance or review procedures, and that the dispute was raised about 1 year and 10 months after her employment ended. It made no recommendation in her favour.
