WRC recommends employer review grievance timelines after employee’s complaint

By Orla Quinn

Workplace Relations Commission ·

The WRC recommended that an employer review the timelines in its grievance procedures after an employee disputed delays in handling his grievance about lost facilitator hours. The recommendation was dated 5 March 2025. He had sought €9,375 in back pay, but the recommendation did not award that sum. The employer said it investigated the grievance and cited delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and a ransomware attack affecting health services. The adjudication officer found the employer had considered the facilitator-hours issue and provided a comprehensive outcome report. The officer said the delays were frustrating, while noting the employer had apologised and explained some of them.
