Labour Court recommends £3,000 car-loan limit for Scottish Legal Life staff

By Niamh Kearney

Labour Court ·

In 1986, the Labour Court recommended that both sides accept a conciliation proposal raising expense allowances for Scottish Legal Life Assurance Society agents and increase the staff car-loan limit to £3,000. The recommendation was signed on 30 October 1986. The Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs sought higher weekly expenses and a larger preferential loan, arguing that agents needed cars and paid their own work-related costs. The Society said its offers exceeded inflation and cited its financial difficulties in Ireland. The proposal raised weekly expenses by £2.50 from 1 May 1985 and by a further £2.50 from 1 May 1986, for a further 12 months. The Court recommended that both sides accept it and that the loan limit rise to £3,000.
