The Labour Court recommended that Irish Life Assurance PLC and the Association of Scientific Technical and Managerial Staff review the job evaluation scheme for staff in brokerage offices. The recommendation was signed on 3 November 1986. The union sought upgrades for experienced grade 2 clerical staff, arguing that their responsibilities and promotion prospects were not properly recognised. Irish Life said the jobs were generally basic clerical roles, except where they involved duties such as training, coordination and checking work.
