Labour Court recommends £1,300 for two Arklow Pottery mill operatives

By Gráinne Nolan

Labour Court ·

In 1986, the Labour Court recommended that Arklow Pottery Limited pay two mill operatives £1,300 compensation for the loss of a shift premium, with their £25 weekly payment to cease from 30 November. The recommendation was signed on 28 November 1986. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union also sought compensation for two night sweepers who lost overtime and a polisher who claimed loss of potential earnings. The Court did not recommend conceding the sweepers’ claim because the loss arose from rationalisation, and found no basis for compensating the polisher for anticipated earnings. It recommended the lump sum for the two mill operatives and the end of their weekly payment.
