The Labour Court recommended against the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union's claim for a special computerisation allowance for about 30 clerical workers at Nitrigin Eireann Teoranta's Arklow factory. Its recommendation was signed on 4 December 1986. The union argued that computerisation had expanded beyond what was expected under a 1979 agreement, bringing new equipment, skills and heavier workloads. Nitrigin Eireann Teoranta said compensation under that agreement already covered new technology. The Court agreed that it covered computers and found no justification for recommending the union's claim.
