Labour Court recommends talks on maximum point for Nissan clerical salary scale

By Aoife Loughran

Labour Court ·

In 1986, the Labour Court recommended that Nissan Ireland, the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs and the Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union negotiate a maximum point for the clerical salary scale and any compensation arising from an agreement. The recommendation was signed on 16 December 1986. The company argued that annual increments with no maximum point were unsustainable and affected management pay and pension arrangements. The unions said the scale had been negotiated in good faith and should not be changed without workers’ agreement. The Court considered the company’s proposal not unreasonable and recommended negotiations on it and any compensation payable under an agreement.
