In 1986, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Federated Workers Union of Ireland’s claim against Navan Urban District Council to regrade a waterworks inspector. The recommendation was signed on 23 December 1986. The union sought to move the inspector from grade IV to foreman craftsman, arguing that his responsibilities included overseeing water supply to about 22,000 people. The council said his duties fitted the water and sewerage caretaker structure and that he had not appealed his existing grade. The Court found no grounds to re-categorise the post.
