In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that workers accept the Irish Printing Federation’s offer on the 26th wage round. The recommendation was signed on 2 April 1987. The Irish Print Union opposed the proposed 14-month settlement, which included staged pay increases and conditions on efficiency measures and further claims. It argued that the offer lagged other settlements and that printers’ pay had fallen behind other craft workers. The Federation said the package exceeded current and forecast inflation and that similar terms had been accepted by other printing unions.
