In 1987, the Labour Court recommended a 26th-round pay increase at Steiner (Galway) Limited of £4 a week for six months, followed by £5 a week for seven months, effective from 1 January 1987. The recommendation was signed on 11 June 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union had sought a pay increase and extra annual leave for about 60 general workers. The company cited pressure on its trading margin, currency movements and the cost of investment in a second product.
