In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that workers accept Starball Retainer Company (Ireland) Limited’s offer for the second phase of the 26th wage round. The recommendation was signed on 9 July. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union had sought a 4% increase, while the company offered 2% over five months to 31 August 1987. The Court considered the offer reasonable, citing the competitive environment and the company’s costs in adapting to it.
