In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that National Industri (formerly ACEC (I) Limited) and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union agree on an independent assessment of seven shop-floor supervisors’ positions in the company’s salary structure. The recommendation was signed on 13 July. The union said the supervisors’ duties and responsibilities warranted a salary review and backed an assessment by an agreed third party. The company argued there had been no significant change in their work or salary scales to justify a revision. The Court recommended an independent assessment and said it could nominate an assessor if the parties could not agree.
