In 1987, the Labour Court recommended a new salary scale for four clerical employees at Klockner Moeller (Ireland) Limited, ranging from £110 to £200 with annual increments of £7.50. It also recommended a £12 weekly increase for electrical, draughtsmen, drivers, forklift and stores personnel. The recommendation was signed on 3 September 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union sought a salary structure for clerical staff and pay increases for other groups, citing their duties and rates elsewhere. The company argued that the changes would cost about £10,504 in the first year and cited competition and a downturn in construction.
