Labour Court defers recommendation on Buttles Bacon pay and hours claims

By Fionn Kelly

Labour Court ·

In 1987, the Labour Court deferred its recommendation on the Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union’s claims against Buttles Bacon Company for a 10% pay rise, shorter hours and an extra day of annual leave. It proposed reviewing the claims in November, taking account of circumstances then prevailing. The recommendation was signed on 10 September 1987. The union argued for improved pay and conditions under the 26th wage round. Buttles Bacon said its operation was not viable and it could not afford increases or other cost rises.
