In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Louth County Council advance a Clogherhead harbour constable’s wages by three increments from 1 September. It also recommended a review of his pay when the harbour is developed. The recommendation was signed on 11 September 1987. The Federated Workers’ Union of Ireland had sought regrading to the waterworks caretaker’s scale and a weekend allowance, arguing that the constable had a 24-hour, seven-day attendance liability. The Court found no justification for the allowance.
