In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that a fitter mechanic pay 25% of the replacement cost of tools stolen from Galway County Council’s workshop. The recommendation was signed on 24 September 1987. The Amalgamated Engineering Union had argued that the worker should contribute only 25% of the replacement cost. Galway County Council had offered £241 towards the cost. The Court considered the union’s proposal reasonable.
