In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Philips Electronics Ireland Limited amend its offer to nine operatives facing a transfer from Finglas to Clonskeagh. It recommended that the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union accept the offer. The recommendation was signed on 2 November 1987. The revised offer provided a commuter ticket, or equivalent cash, for two years from the transfer and a net £500 lump sum at the end of that period. The workers were employed by Telecommunications Limited. The union had sought compensation for the move, which the company said was part of a rationalisation. Its earlier offer covered a commuter ticket for one year and a £200 payment after the move; the union had reduced its lump-sum request to £2,000 per employee.
