The Labour Court did not recommend the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's claim for a change to Tinsley Wire Limited's bonus scheme. The recommendation was signed on 17 November 1987. The union sought compensation for workers whose potential bonus earnings fell after a machine was not run for lack of orders during a week in September 1987. It argued the downtime was within the company's control and the existing allowance did not protect earnings. Tinsley Wire said a market recession caused the downtime and workers' earnings remained above the fallback point. The Court found reasonable grounds had not been established to concede the claim in similar circumstances.
