In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that a dispatch clerk/packer at Fred Hanna Limited accept the extra £4 a week already paid above the company grade scale as settlement of a pay claim brought by the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union. The recommendation was signed on 26 November 1987. The union sought a higher rate, arguing that the worker's duties and comparisons with staff at other booksellers supported £178.30 a week. The company said grade 1 was appropriate for the post and that it had already applied an additional £4 to the top of that scale.
