The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs’ claim for a porter at Our Lady of Mercy College Carysfort to receive the head porter scale used in Vocational Education Committees. The recommendation was signed on 9 December 1987. The Court said the porter’s duties had not changed since his appointment and that the claimed parity had not existed during that time. The union argued that his duties and responsibilities supported the higher rate; the college said its pupil numbers did not qualify it for a head porter scale.
