In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Concrete Products Of Ireland Limited cut its pay pause offer to five months and that the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union accept the amended offer in a dispute over wage parity for 19 workers. The recommendation was signed on 11 December 1987. The union sought the construction industry’s 26th wage-round package, including a 4% pay rise, higher meal allowances and an extra day of annual leave. Concrete Products Of Ireland Limited said difficult trading conditions made the full package unsustainable, while maintaining its pension and sick-pay commitments. The Court recommended that the union not pursue the full package and accept the company’s amended offer.
