In 1988, the Labour Court recommended a £30 lump sum for each worker under an amended pay offer to settle basic-wage claims by the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union on behalf of 150 employees at Kilkenny Textile Mills. The Court also declined the union’s grading-review claim and recommended that the existing incentive scheme continue. Claims for a reduced working week and increased holiday entitlement had been withdrawn before conciliation. The recommendation, which called for both parties to accept the amended offer, was signed on 23 March 1988.
