Labour Court recommends redeploying Wicklow County Council staff on refuse route

By Eimear Byrne

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Wicklow County Council use staff redeployed from non-essential services to operate a refuse collection route, instead of contracting it out. The recommendation was signed on 22 April 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union argued that privatising the route breached the Programme for National Recovery. The Court said it could find no reference to privatisation of services in the cited provision, and recommended redeployment on industrial-relations grounds.
