In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Atlas Aluminium Limited pay the full National Wage Agreement terms from the expiry of the previous agreement. It recommended no increase to the existing 20% shift premium. The recommendation was signed on 17 June 1988. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union had also sought higher rates for zinc casting and a new senior inspector grade. The parties agreed those jobs would be reassessed by the company and the union's industrial engineer, which the Court noted in its recommendation.
