In 1988, the Labour Court said an incremental scale was not an appropriate way to deal with the salaries of two clerical workers at Alfa Laval Limited. The recommendation was signed on 25 October 1988. Marine Port And General Workers' Union had sought the scale, arguing that the workers' pay was below sector averages. The company argued that a scale would distort its pay structure and increase costs. The Court did not consider the proposed incremental scale appropriate.
