Labour Court rejects Electrical Trades Union wage-rate claim at New Dublin Gas

By Donal Gilhooly

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Electrical Trades Union’s claim for the industrial/commercial service engineers’ wage rate for three electrical technicians and one chargehand electrical technician at New Dublin Gas. The recommendation was signed on 6 December 1988. The union said the technicians had taken on changed duties and additional training after the switch to natural gas. The Court accepted that the work had changed substantially, but said similar changes had been required of other staff categories and did not warrant a change of grade. It also concluded that the earlier higher grading of other craft workers did not justify conceding the claim.
