In 1989, the Labour Court found that a worker was not fairly dismissed by Hugh McNulty And Company Limited and recommended compensation equal to two weeks' wages. The recommendation was signed on 26 May 1989. The company said the dismissal followed a drop in business and also cited difficulties with his work. The worker disputed the business explanation, pointing out that casual workers hired after him remained employed, and said he had often worked late without pay. He agreed to be bound by the Court's recommendation.
