In 1989, the Labour Court recommended a lump sum of £250 each for 20 process operators at Abbott (Ireland) Limited after their fire-fighting duties ended. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union sought compensation for the duties. The Court noted that the fire-fighting service was no longer required and recommended the payment. Its recommendation was signed on 12 June 1989.
