Labour Court declines union claim for compensation after hospital worker’s earnings loss

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport and General Workers’ Union’s claim for compensation for a worker whose earnings fell after he was redeployed from Brownswood Hospital. The recommendation was signed on 3 August 1989. The worker had been a ward orderly for 20 years before the hospital closed and was moved to a general operative role at St. Senan’s Hospital, where he no longer received premiums for late night and weekend work. The Court said the loss arose directly from financial restrictions placed on the South Eastern Health Board.
