Labour Court restores Irish Rail’s agreed Sunday train arrangements

By Aoife Loughran

Labour Court ·

In 1989, the Labour Court recommended restoring the arrangements agreed for Sunday morning trains between Dún Laoghaire and Connolly and Heuston stations. The recommendation was signed on 13 November. Irish Rail had changed the arrangements unilaterally in May 1988, after agreeing them with I.C.T.U., Rail Operative Trade Union Group and National Busworkers Union. The Court said the parties should adhere to their agreement. It also recommended discussions on improving efficiency and making more economical use of resources. The company said it faced a 3.7% annual expenditure reduction target and had incurred costs of about £3 million in each of two Programme for National Recovery phases.
