Labour Court recommends £600 for Brooks Thomas stress grader

By Aoife Loughran

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that Brooks Thomas Limited pay a £600 lump sum to an operative who qualified as a timber stress grader. The payment covered the period from qualification until trade requirements changed. The Marine Port And General Workers' Union sought an ongoing weekly increase for the worker’s new skills and responsibilities. The company considered a rate increase unjustified but offered a £200 once-off payment. The Court recommended a lump sum instead. The recommendation was signed on 6 December 1989.
