Labour Court ·

In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Roches Stores) pay £150 to each full-time employee who worked throughout renovations at its Blackrock premises, with part-time staff paid pro rata. The recommendation was signed on 13 December 1989.

The Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union sought compensation for disruption during extensive renovations between January and November 1989. It said workers faced dust, noise, congestion, draughts, odours and disorganisation. The company said it had taken precautions to limit disruption and kept staff continuously employed.

The Court cited the scale and duration of the reconstruction, the company’s efforts to minimise problems and staff co-operation in maintaining normal trading when recommending the payment.
