In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that an electrical foreman at Pfizer Chemical Corporation supervise issues involving electricians’ craft in the disputed sections. Management’s arrangements were to apply in other respects. The recommendation was signed on 9 August 1990. The dispute involved two electricians and a reorganisation that changed reporting arrangements. The Electrical Trades Union said electricians should report through an electrical foreman. Pfizer said the changes were intended to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The Court criticised precipitate action by both sides and noted that the company did not intend to remove the foremen’s supervisory level.
