In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Brown Thomas and Company Limited pay staff at its Grafton Street store £100 each, pro rata for part-time staff and full-time staff who did not work throughout the renovation period. The recommendation was signed on 10 December 1990. The Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union sought compensation for disturbance during major refurbishment. It cited dust, noise and disruption; the company said it took steps to limit inconvenience and noted that workers had no loss of earnings. The Court took account of the company’s mitigation efforts and staff co-operation in setting its recommended payment.
