In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Country Meats introduce a 39-hour week from 1 April, with the details to be negotiated by the company and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The union brought the claim on behalf of about 330 workers, preferring accumulated time off. The Court also recommended cooperation with the transfer to a new plant and that management decisions on disputed issues be followed, if necessary under protest, while the disputes procedure was pending. Its recommendation was signed on 27 February 1991.
