In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that the findings of Irish Rail's disciplinary hearings be accepted after finding the company had followed its disciplinary procedures. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had challenged action against a cook and a kitchen porter. The initial hearings dismissed both workers. On appeal, those dismissals were replaced with suspensions of three days for the cook and two days for the kitchen porter. The recommendation was dated 8 March 1991.
