Labour Court recommends changes to Calor Gas staff arrangements

By Donal Gilhooly

Labour Court ·

In 1991, the Labour Court recommended changes to working arrangements for 10 clerical staff at Calor Gas’s Dublin Filling Station. The recommendation was signed on 26 June 1991. The Court recommended conceding the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union’s claim for a half-hour tea break. It did not recommend requiring the company to offer early-start work at times unrelated to the needs of the task. For weekend work, staff should be able to choose between overtime and call-out arrangements. Call-out work carries a three-hour minimum payment, while overtime carries a five-hour minimum. The Court also recommended the same grading structure and work obligations as for other clerical employees, with outstanding issues to be discussed directly by the parties.
