In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Boart Europe Limited pause further redundancies until it agreed clearer selection criteria with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was dated 18 July 1991. The Court considered the attendance record used to select an employee for severance a reasonably objective criterion under the existing agreement, all things being equal. If the parties failed to agree clearer criteria within six months, the company could use the existing agreement and attendance criterion if necessary.
