In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that the Royal Dublin Society pay phase 1 of the P.E.S.P. terms to workers represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 4 October 1991. The Court acknowledged the Society’s serious financial difficulties but said payment was in the long-term interests of all. In return, it said the Society was entitled to full cooperation in introducing its proposed measures to reduce ongoing costs and achieve viability.
