Labour Court declines to recommend compensation for Waterford Corporation overtime claim

By Rory Hanlon

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court did not recommend that Waterford Corporation concede a union claim for compensation for nine workers who lost rostered overtime. Its recommendation was dated 16 December 1991. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the overtime had been part of the workers’ normal hours and its loss affected their earnings and future pensions. The corporation cited financial strain and the need to manage overtime within its resources. The Court pointed to the circumstances behind the overtime reduction and the alternative overtime pattern that had emerged.
