In 1992, the Labour Court recommended a production standard of 10,723 dozen per day for Cantrell & Cochrane’s Line No. 1, based on output of 2,000 dozen per hour. It also recommended that the company and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union draw up proposals for a sick pay scheme for temporary workers. The recommendation was signed on 7 January 1992. The union and company disagreed over the revised bonus standard and sick pay for temporary staff. The Court said work-study results could vary and were within acceptable tolerances in this case. It said it would try to help if the parties could not agree on the sick pay proposals.
