Labour Court rejects union claim to upgrade three Teagasc matrons

By Rory Hanlon

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union’s claim to upgrade three Teagasc matrons. Its recommendation was signed on 28 May 1992. The union sought conditions based on the health boards’ catering officer grade I agreement. Teagasc said the existing pay relationship remained appropriate. The matrons worked in residential colleges in Kilkenny, Cavan and Athenry, with responsibilities for catering, accommodation, and staff and student welfare. The Court said the union had not shown sufficient change in the quantity or quality of their work since the 1987 review to justify an upgrade.
