Labour Court rejects union claim for higher Teagasc retirement lump sum

By Cathal Brosnan

Labour Court ·

In 1992, the Labour Court recommended against the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union’s claim for a higher retirement lump sum for a former Teagasc worker. The recommendation was signed on 18 June 1992. The worker retired under an early retirement scheme after his post was abolished. The union sought a lump sum that included later phases of a special pay increase, while Teagasc said it calculated the amount as the increases came into payment. The Court found no grounds to concede the claim, but rejected Teagasc’s position that it lacked jurisdiction.
