In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Sanbra Fyffe not concede the Marine Port And General Workers Union’s claim for a 3% increase under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. The recommendation was dated 6 October 1992. The union said workers had helped improve efficiency and was willing to discuss proposals to fund an increase. Sanbra Fyffe cited a projected loss, falling turnover and the risk to jobs from higher costs.
