In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Extraspace pay a carpenter £250 after finding he had been unfairly selected for redundancy because of the comparative length of his service. The recommendation was signed on 9 October 1992. Extraspace said a downturn in business led it to select the higher-paid of its two carpenters to maximise savings. The worker said he had longer service than the other carpenter and that the company had not discussed the decision with him.
