Labour Court recommends £120 and reference for trainee electrician

By Gráinne Nolan

Labour Court ·

In 1992, the Labour Court recommended that Tom Barrett pay a trainee electrician £120, equal to two weeks’ net pay, after finding summary dismissal inappropriate. It also recommended that Barrett provide an appropriate reference without delay. The worker said he had received no written warning and had not received a promised reference. Barrett cited concerns about the worker’s work and attendance, as well as a shortage of work after losing two contracts. The recommendation was signed on 12 October 1992.
