In 1993, the Labour Court recommended a 15% rest allowance and found reasonable grounds for a contingency allowance in a slaughter-line performance scheme proposed by Irish Country Meats Limited and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. It considered a target of 480 cattle at standard performance reasonable for a trial, subject to confirming ear-tag removal as the critical operation. The recommendation, signed on 19 January, also called on the company to put forward proposals for a performance-related scheme as soon as possible.
