In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Cavistons pay a chef three further weeks’ pay after her dismissal. The recommendation was dated 8 February 1993; she had already received one week’s pay in lieu of notice. The worker said she was dismissed without warning after returning from leave. Cavistons said expected sales had not materialised and it had no option but to dismiss her. The Court found she was badly treated in the way her dismissal was communicated, particularly given her satisfactory service.
